Term 2 in Review

I would just like to start by thanking all the students at St Michael’s for another outstanding Term of Physical Education and sporting achievements.  Our amazing run of success from Term 1 has continued this Term with students from St Michael’s shining at School, District and State level.

District Cross Country

On Friday the 19th of May 29 students from St Michael’s participated at the Barker SAPSASA Cross Country event at Woodside Recreation Grounds. Heavy rains in the lead up to the event created ideal  muddy and slippery conditions for the competitors. The St Michael’s students who had been training at school for three weeks in the lead up to the event were fit and ready to go with race lengths varying between 2km (10 yr olds ) and 3km (11+12 yr olds). All of the students competed to the best of their abilities, all red faced and exhausted after their races. Special mentions must go to Charlie Shearer, Elle-Rose Shearer and Rory Falzon who all won their age divisions.

During the presentation my disappointment of not retaining the Adjusted Score Trophy that we won the year before was quickly turned to joy and excitement when St Michael’s was announced District Champions. What an achievement from an awesome group of kids.

Congratulations to you all.

State Cross Country

On Thursday on the 1st of June, 8 students including Charlie Shearer, Mitchell Zander,  Rory Falzon, Jack Sharrad, Ethan Fry, Dylan Weyland, Elle Rose Shearer and Amelie D’Arcy represented the Barker SAPSASA District at the State Cross Country Championships. They were selected to run in the event held at Oakbank Race Course based on their fantastic performance at the District event above. All the kids competed well on the day and a special mention must go to  Charlie Shearer  who came 8th overall in the 12yr  boys and a massive congratulations to Elle-Rose Shearer who came 1st in the 10yr old girls and will be competing at the National Championships in Tasmania in Term 3.

KNOCKOUT SPORT

KO Soccer

Our Knockout Soccer team played three matches this Term defeating Mt Barker South 4-1 and Uraidla Primary 3-1 before losing to Aldgate Primary 3-0.

In our first two matches the St Michael’s players we able to maintain possession of the ball in our scoring half and put pressure on the opposition teams by having multiple scoring opportunities. The defenders attacked the ball and put pressure on the Mt Barker and Uraidla forwards creating turn overs and limiting their scoring shots. Liam Gibbs starred in goals making a number of skilful saves.

In our third match Aldgate primary was too strong. They gave us a taste of our own medicine maintaining possession of the ball and locking it in their forward half.  Despite not giving up and trying their hardest the St Michael’s boys couldn’t keep up with Aldgate who now will player in the quarter finals.

Sorry I didn’t get a photo of the Team prior to their games 🙁

KO Football

Our Knockout Football team played two games this term winning their first match against Mt Barker South and going down to Happy Valley Primary in their second.  In both games the St Michael’s boys played hard, attacking football and they were able to use their speed and agility to score efficiently. We were dominant against Mt Barker South leading from start to finish playing good team football.

The game against Happy Valley started in a similar way to our first game with  St Michael’s scoring 4.1 to 0.0 in the first quarter. However Happy Valley came to play in the Second quarter scoring 5.3 to 0.0 with their bigger players dominating the game. The third quarter was quite even with the visiting team running over us in the Fourth to win by 5 goals.

Despite the second round loss I congratulate the boys on their attitude and the brand of football they played.

KO Netball

Our Knockout Netball team played Hahndorf Primary in their first match and despite a strong effort they were unable to get the win.  Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, however, Hahndorf were too strong in the second half taking a comfortable victory.

Sorry I didn’t get a photo of the Team prior to their game 🙁
