Term 2 news and Term 1 Highlights

Hi All,

Welcome back to another exciting term of P.E at St Michael’s. The calendar is already filling up with many exciting activities and carnivals with Knockout sports and the District Cross Country all happening in the first four weeks of term.

In P.E lessons students in the BLC will continue to develop and refine their fundamental movement skills through a variety of activities that allow them to throw, catch, hit, kick, control objects and move in space. The other learning communities will be focusing on Net and Wall games including HandBall and  Tennis (JLC), Volleyball (MLC +SLC),  Table Tennis (SLC) and Badminton (MLC).

I hope that Term 2 can be as rewarding as Term 1. Below are a few highlights from our students performances this last term.

Courier Cup

We placed 3rd overall and had 6 students selected to represent the Barker SAPSASA District at the State Swimming Championships. The students below were selected to represent the Barker district at the SAPSASA State Championships following their outstanding performances at the Courier Cup event.

Sports Day

Despite unfavourable conditions, the weather didn’t dampen the students spirit or performances. The day allowed the students to display their skills in the different events that they had been training for in P.E.  I was very proud of their efforts and behaviour on the day.  Once all the races had been run and won it was Zebra well on top, followed by Bengalee then Prince George.  A huge thanks to Novalene for all the work and assistance in the lead up to and the day, Lee-Anne in the scoring tent and to all the students, teachers, parent volunteers and spectators who helped in the 2018 St Michael’s Sports Day.

Barker SAPSASA Athletics Day

This year St Michael’s successfully defended the adjusted trophy title at the Barker SAPSASA Athletics carnival and came third overall.  Our team preformed extremely well.  A number of our competitors won their events and earned themselves spots in the District team that will be competing at Santos Stadium later in the year at the State Championships.  A special mention to Elle-Rose Shearer who won the trophy for best female athlete.

Knockout Sports

We entered two Knockout teams in Term 1 (cricket and softball) but unfortunately  were unable to make it through the first rounds of competition.

Our cricket team lost to Aldgate primary who had great depth in their batting and bowling line up and were two strong for the St Michael’s team.

In softball we played Woodcroft Primary School and unfortunately ran out of time in the final innings going down by 3 runs in a nail biting finish. Apologies for no team photo.

I look forward to sharing the Term 2 action with you shortly.

Mr P
